JAKE SUTTON

BIOGRAPHY & COMMISSIONS

Jake Sutton has been a professional painter for more than twenty years. Born in 1947, at the age of seven he won the Daily Express National Children's Painting Competition, and at thirteen he established his future direction in painting by attending Manchester High School of Art. At eighteen he continued his study of painting at St. Martin's School of Art, London.

He has had ten major solo shows in London with prominent West End galleries. His work is in many private and public collections around the world.

Following an exhibition at the Theatre Museum, London, his work was purchased for the permanent collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum.

In 1989 he was commissioned to paint a series of pictures on the theme 'Sport' for the publication of a set of stamps by the Royal Mail. Royal Mail Stamps

The Palace of Westminster commissioned a series of paintings of the 'Highlights of London', and some eighteen works have been purchased for the House of Commons permanent collection. House of Commons, Palace of Westminster commission

A more recent commission from London Transport for a painting of 'Simply London' was accepted for the publication of a London Underground poster, to be displayed in 1999. London Transport Underground Poster commission

Jake Sutton has undertaken commissions from major corporations including Conoco, IBM, and The Times Newspaper.

The artist is now working on a collection of paintings and drawings of ballet and opera, based on productions held at Covent Garden, and  published as THE ROYAL OPERA HOUSE COLLECTION in the form of cards and prints.

1999 Commissioned by London Transport to paint in watercolour 'Simply London' for use as a London Underground poster. 

London one man show of The Spirit of Scotland at the Gallery in Cork Street with Kim Sutton Fine Art: exhibiting paintings executed over a two year period celebrating the heritage and diversity of Scotland.

2002    Invited to create the Royal Opera House Collection: a series of drawings and paintings based on Covent Garden productions of ballet and opera, paying particular attention to The Nutcracker ballet.

2003    Accepting more commissions for portraiture.
